Tony Romo resists urge to audible from"kneel down"play to deep pass into triple coverage

LANDOVER, MD – Just one week after he controversially changed a 4th quarter running play to a pass, resulting in a game-losing interception, Cowboys QB Tony Romo, at the end of a 24-23 victory over the Redskins, resisted a powerful, last second urge to audible out of his team’s “kneel-down” victory play in favor of a deep pass to a triple-covered Miles Austin down the middle of the field, sources confirmed late Sunday.

“They had all their guys bunched up at the line of scrimmage. It just seemed like we might’ve had a chance to hit them for a big gain,” Romo said, defending the near-play change. “But I’ve been hearing a lot lately about the need to play more conservatively and make better decisions, so I figured I’d stick with the play call from the sideline. Though I’m gonna always be wondering, ‘what-if,’ you know?”
